By far the oldest song on the album, "Rose-Colored Shades" is the first song we ever played together (Megan had recently written it when we decided to "jam" for the first time). We wanted to keep it tender and flowy, so we cut the click track and went for something that felt natural. Megan was able to use a CopperPhone to track the vocals, which is what gives the awesome retro vibe to the vocals. Megan was so inspired by the sound of the microphone that she nailed the vocal track in her first take (it took Drew 12 takes to get his *small* part).

What do I ask for?
Do I expect too much?
I'm wanting affection
I want to feel loved
I give it some time
Maybe you will see
All that you're doing
How it's affecting me

And I see you
Through these rose-colored shades

"I care about you deeply"
I know all this is true
but why is it so easy
for you to get me blue
I wish and wish for fullness
for sweet, sweet sympathy
but all I really get
is bitter continuity

And I see you
through these rose-colored shades

And I still hate you
But I still love you
Because I still see you
through these rose-colored shades

The Slow Waltz first formed in early 2009 as a side project by Drew Williams and Megan Atlakson. Both Drew and Megan had been writing music separately and had been affiliated with various groups before deciding to come together and try their hand at writing together. The result was immediately recognized as being awesome, and they haven't looked back since. ... more
